Do You Work for Favor or as Worship?

Do you work to earn favor, or do you work as an act of worship?

In a recent devotional from Jordan Raynor, he wrote:

“God loves you and I no matter how productive or unproductive we are today. Ironically, it’s that truth that gives us the ambition to be wildly productive. Why? Because working to earn someone’s favor is exhausting. But working in response to unconditional favor is intoxicating. Once you realize that God accepts you “no matter how many good things you do,” you want to be productive for His agenda as a loving act of worship.”

Of course, we ought to work for reward (we do want to get paid, after all), but our work is more fulfilling when we work as a response to God’s overwhelming grace!

“God saved you through faith as an act of kindness. You had nothing to do with it. Being saved is a gift from God. It’s not the result of anything you’ve done, so no one can brag about it. God has made us what we are. He has created us in Christ Jesus to live lives filled with good works that he has prepared for us to do.”
