Lord, Sustain Us For the Long Haul

Psalm 13 expresses the frustration and hope we’re all feeling right now, and the question you’re thinking in your heart:

How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?

How long will you hide your face from me?

How long must I make decisions alone

with sorrow in my heart day after day?

How long will my enemy triumph over me?

1 & 2 Kings and the Psalms show us this: David turned to God for direction in everything.

Look at me! Answer me, O Lord my God!

Light up my eyes,

or else I will die

and my enemy will say, “I have overpowered him.”

My opponents will rejoice because I have been shaken.

“Light up my eyes…” When you turn your eyes to our Lord, does it revive you?

But I trust your mercy.

My heart finds joy in your salvation.

I will sing to the Lord because he has been good to me.

David was confident in one thing above all others: He trusted in God to deliver him.

Lord, sustain us for the long haul. We still don’t know what the future will be like, but you do. We trust in your mercy, find joy in your salvation, and praise you because you are good to us.
